We have seen the botch jobs and heard the horror stories but as I approach my mile stone birthday ’40’ I am looking for ways to freshen my face even when faced with a possible lockdown celebration. I have had yearly botox treatments since I turned 30 and over the last 2 years some small amounts of filler injected into my smile lines to take the edge off but I felt ready to try a little more. Forget those puffy faces you might think of when talking about injectables read my story and see my results. I think you will be surprised.
Step 1. Find an experienced practitioner
Dr Yusra is a dental surgeon and an anti-ageing expert based in Blundellsands. She is an advanced experienced facial aesthetic practitioner with several years’ experience in head and neck surgery. She qualified with Honours and Distinction from King’s College London after obtaining several prizes for clinical excellence as well as obtaining a First class honours in Medical Science and Management from Imperial College London.
Step 2. Review Results
Ask to see as many examples of before and after pictures as possible. This is so important. Manage your expectation. Fillers won’t dissolve wrinkles instead they add volume and structure to your face when injected correctly. The results can be very subtle if that is what you are hoping for.
Step 3. Research the brand of filler being used
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally found substance that is already present in our skin. They come in the form of a sterilised gel. Know what is going into your face please research the brand. This will often reflect on the price and if you want my advice, never go cheap with your face. Pay extra for experience, skill and product. I LOVE a bargain more than most but look for cheap alternatives elsewhere never take risks with your face.
Confident that Dr Yusra knew exactly what results I wanted I felt no nerves and no pain during the procedure. She injected 4ml of Restylane and Belotero in total into my cheeks, chin and jawline which took around 30 minutes from start to finish. The results were instant.
My face looked slimmer, jawline straighter and the natural lift I had asked for delivered. I left the clinic and went straight out for lunch. As instructed I left my sunglasses off so no change in the filler placement was made with with just slightly pink cheeks I felt no side effects and very little swelling.
I had been warned that when I woke the following day I would feel uncomfortable and to expect swelling. I can only describe it as ‘gym face’ like my face had been to the gym and ached. For me though it actually kicked in before I went to bed on day 1 so I popped a few paracetamol and propped my head up with a pillow as instructed. I naturally sleep on my side so that was tough staying on my back and I did feel more aware of my face if that makes sense?
Day 2 and 3 I could see swelling but my family insisted that they couldn’t. I felt my smile looked a little forced and the filler around my nose was hard but I was literally the only one who could see that. By day 4 I would say it felt completely settled and loved the results. I was posting Instagram stories every day including the day of the treatment and although I am currently working from home I could have happily gone into the office not worrying about swelling or bruising. It really was minimal. Now micro cannulas can be used which are blunt tubes to deliver the product to the desired area without using needles, reducing trauma and the risk of bruising and that is how my fillers were mostly placed so that could explain it.
I must mention that I have a high pain tolerance generally and no fear of needles so my blog might not reflect your experience but if I had bruised or freaked out I would be typing that all out here for you to read.
See for yourself my results and fire any questions my way via Instagram if you are considering dermal fillers. I will always be completely honest.
